Laser seam tracking (option)

A laser stripe is projected across the joint and imaged by a camera; the controller extracts joint coordinates, mismatch and gap, then guides or corrects the path in real time. Non-contact, fast and tolerant of part-to-part variation.

What Is a Robotic Laser Welding Machine?

A robotic laser welding machine mounts a fiber laser welding head on a programmable multi-axis arm. The head follows a taught path, delivering consistent welds at production speed on complex 3D geometry that is slow or awkward to reach by hand.

This build uses the JAKA ZU5 six-axis collaborative arm: 954 mm working radius, 5 kg payload, ±0.02 mm repeatability, IP54 protection and a 158 mm base. Because it is a collaborative arm, paths are set by hand guiding rather than by programming, and the cell does not have to be built around a fixed industrial robot.

Comparison

Robotic or Hand-Held?

Robotic and hand-held builds share the same fiber laser source, wobble welding gun and stored parameter sets, so the choice comes down to part mix and volume rather than to welding capability.

Choose robotic when the same seam repeats across a batch and cycle-to-cycle consistency matters more than setup speed.
Choose hand-held when parts vary, seams are one-off, or the work moves around the shop.
You do not have to choose permanently: the same laser source and wobble gun run both ways, so one system covers robotic and manual welding.
Drag teaching keeps changeover in minutes rather than in robot programming time.

Both modes draw on the same 30 stored parameter sets, so settings proven by hand carry over to the arm.
