The most important decision in laser surface cleaning is not which brand to buy — it is which technology mode fits your application. Pulsed and continuous laser cleaning share the same basic principle (photonic ablation, no consumables, no secondary pollution) but differ fundamentally in power delivery, cooling, portability and suitable applications.

Pulsed 50/100 W — Precision and Portability

Pulsed units deliver energy in controlled nanosecond bursts, keeping peak fluence high while average power stays low. This means: air-cooled design (no chiller), compact and portable, minimal thermal load on the substrate, and fine control over ablation depth. Real formats: 50 W (lightest, finest) and 100 W (higher throughput, still portable). Best for: thin rust and oxide, delicate alloys, mould and die cleaning, cultural heritage, weld pre-treatment on precision parts, and any on-site or field application.

Continuous 3000/6000 W — Production Throughput

Continuous-wave units maintain a steady high-power beam, requiring water cooling and three-phase power but delivering throughput no pulsed unit can match. Real formats: 3000 W and 6000 W (6000 W ≈ 2× throughput on heavy jobs). Rust removal rate: 50–100 m²/h on structural steel. Best for: thick rust (≥ 3 mm), multi-layer coatings (≥ 5 layers), ship hull de-rusting, large fabrication pre-treatment, and any continuous production-pace cleaning operation.

Selection Guide

Choose pulsed 50/100 W when: substrate damage tolerance is low; job requires portability; surface area is small or scattered; material is thin, precision or heat-sensitive. Choose continuous 3000/6000 W when: rust or coating is thick; area is large and continuous; job runs at production pace; throughput and cost-per-m² are the primary metrics. When in doubt: pulsed for quality, continuous for quantity.
