What You Actually Pay For
The machine you pay for is a stack of choices: the laser source, the power level, the marking field, the galvo head and lens, the software, and any automation like a rotary axis or conveyor. Each adds capability — and cost — so the honest question isn’t “how cheap,” it’s “what does this part actually need.”
Source and Power
Source sets the baseline: fiber for metal, CO2 for organics, UV for sensitive materials, MOPA for color and fine work. Power scales with depth and speed — 20W for light codes, 100W for deep engraving and high-volume lines. Buying far above what the material needs is the most common way to overpay.
Hidden Running Costs
The sticker price is only part of the story. A fiber source is air-cooled and consumable-free, so running cost is low; a CO2 tube has a service life and a recharge path; inkjet alternatives never stop spending on consumables. Over a few years, running cost often outweighs the upfront difference between two quotes.
How to Compare Quotes Fairly
Line up what’s included — source, head, lens, software, enclosure, automation, warranty — before comparing numbers. Two quotes that look far apart often include different things. We itemise ours so the comparison is real.
