UV Laser Marking on Glass & Plastic

Overview

Glass, LCD, ceramics and sensitive plastics are exactly where UV earns its place — the materials a hot beam tends to crack, melt or discolor, and where the detail often has to be extremely fine.

Why UV Suits These Materials

At 355 nm the mark forms cold, so cracking and melting risk drops sharply and the part stays dimensionally stable. The very small spot resolves detail down to 0.01 mm line width — fine enough for wafers, IC grains, LCD screens, sapphire and polymer film. Contrast stays clean on clear and colored material alike. For curved bottles, lenses and moulded parts, a 3D-galvo UV variant keeps focus across the surface.

Built to Last — Honestly

The mark is a change in the surface itself, not ink on top, so it resists handling and washing. As with any surface mark, very aggressive abrasion or certain solvents can affect it over time — we’ll tell you how your specific material holds up after we sample it.

Specs That Matter

355 nm, 3W–20W, ultra-fine 0.01 mm line width and 0.03 mm character height, fields of 100–300 mm, water-cooled build. A 3D-galvo variant adds up to 150 mm of focal depth for curved and stepped parts.

How to Mark Glass or Plastic

  1. Fixture the part and set the focus for the surface (flat or curved).
  2. Import the mark file and set pulse, speed and frequency for the material.
  3. Run a sample, check contrast and edge quality at full resolution, then save the recipe.
  4. Set repeat positioning and start the batch.
  5. Inspect the mark and log first-article approval.
