Applications & Use Cases
Take a rusted carbon-steel panel. A correctly set beam takes the surface back to clean bare metal, with no measurable pitting or loss of base material. The finish is ready to weld or coat. On painted alloy, the beam can lift the top coat and leave sound primer beneath, or strip right to bare metal — it depends on the setting. The alloy itself shows no abrasion. On a stone sample, a low setting removes carbon crust and biological growth while the stone surface stays sound. The key is to keep the power low and prove it on a test patch first.
How It Works
The pattern across all of these is the same. Because the beam is non-contact and selective, the substrate is not attacked by force. So “safe” comes down to setting the energy right for the material. That is also where the honesty lies. Push the power too high or dwell too long on heat-sensitive stock and you can mark it. That is exactly why a hidden test patch and low settings are standard practice on delicate work.
